From a business perspective, 2017 has certainly been one of the more challenging years in my career in the rail industry. The changes being made across the spectrum, with new trains and re-franchising has provided a plethora of opportunities and the future couldn’t look any brighter for all those involved in running one of the busiest networks in the world.

TXM Projects and the TXM Group are experiencing progressive growth, commensurate with the industry and are really pleased to be at the forefront of our customers’ requirements and supporting a multitude of projects and resource demands.

With TXM Projects firmly established on the map of alternative solutions in a complex marketplace, our clients are recognising the unique benefits that we can bring. This has been especially relevant in some very exciting projects and potential clients and I look forward to being able to bring you news of that in the future.

Class 185 First Transpennine Express Refurbishment

Siemens Rail Systems have contracted TXM Projects for the Modification and Upgrade of the First TransPennine Express (FTPE) fleet of 51 Class 185 DMUs. The largest part of this project is the internal upgrade work being carried out at Siemens’ York facility.

From the start of the project TXM-P have demonstrated that we are a competent supplier, capable of executing this scope of work for Siemens. We have done this by evidencing our Experience, Competence and Capability to deliver major refurbishment projects.

TXM-P have assisted Siemens with preparation of the design and upgrade and have supported the delivery of the first in class. We are now fully embedded within the Siemens at York depot and preparing to deliver the steady sate running of the project of one unit a week.

The upgrade includes a complete interior makeover, including leather seats in first class and plug and USB sockets at every pair of seats throughout the unit. LED Lighting, PIS upgrade and WiFi access for all passengers is also included.

Class 180 First in Class ETCS Installation

Alstom have signed a contract for to design and installation of the Atlas 200 European Train Control System (ETCS) on an East Coast Main Line (ECML) Class 180 trains. The Atlas 200, is designed to ensure passenger safety and reduce signalling risks at high speed through electronic automation.

Alstom have contacted TXM projects to complete this installation and the first in class of the ETCS has now been successfully completed on the unit operated by Grand Central.

TXM Projects are very pleased to have been selected for this complex installation. There are many unique features on each car and the design has been modified from a European version and modified during the first in class.

However, TXM Projects offered Alstom the benefits of their experience and flexibility by utilising many aspects of the successful system approved design, installation and conversion that had been undertaken over the years.

In collaboration with Alstom, TXM Projects Engineers with expertise in electrical installations and previous knowledge of the Class 313 ETCS install, assisted in the development of the design changes for the necessary field modification instructions (FMI’s).

TXM Projects provided site and safety management and skilled and certificated tradesmen who were all commended by all stakeholders involved. The project included the removal of both redundant and obsolete cab equipment together with the installation of new ETCS equipment.
